With over 35 years of combined experience in private and public industries and as a professor of communication studies, Professor Norton specializes in professional communication and experiential learning. She is the Director of the newly launched Professional Communication Minor at Towson University.
Ms. Norton’s consulting experience ranges from organizational and strategic communications to individual clients. She is a certified Life and Engagement Coach and heavily leans into discovering the power that lies within. Her professional experience includes presentational coaching, project management, organizational development, business development, political campaigns, community relations, and crisis management.
As full-time faculty, Professor Norton emphasizes the balance between communication theory and communication skills. Ms. Norton is known to challenge her students to develop their civic engagement passions and pursuits and to strategically implement them. Partnering with the Towson Chamber of Commerce, her Leadership Communication students engage in service learning and annually support the Towsontown Festival. Each year, her students participate in Tiger Pride Day in Annapolis and advocate on behalf of the Student Government Administration. Her Events Planning class plans and manages the Communication Studies Event Planning Expo. In Business and Professional Communication and Capstone, she focuses on professional readiness, civic engagement, and presentational speaking.
Her teaching experience includes Leadership Communication (a service-learning course), Business and Professional Communication, Internship Cohort, Event Planning & Conference and Meeting Management, Capstone, Communication and Global Competence (in Barcelona, Spain), Interpersonal Communication, Advanced Public Speaking, Honors Public Speaking, Public Speaking, Nonverbal Communication, Organizational Communication, Intercultural Communication, and Communication Training and Development.
