Ryan Murray is the current Chair of the Electronic Media and Film Department. Prof. Murray joined the EMF Department in 2009. He teaches courses on the subjects
of virtual reality and immersive media, experimental film and video art, internet
video, video editing, and creativity. Murray received the 2021 Teaching Award for
Senior Faculty from the University Film and Video Association and is a three-time
winner of Towson's Innovation in Teaching Award. He also served as Towson's FACET
Fellow in Emerging Technology from 2020-2022.
Murray creates conceptually-driven artwork that combines virtual reality, video, music, sculpture, and painting. His work addresses the search for moments of meaning by turning pop-culture media/technology on itself and transforming everyday objects and experiences into subtle psychedelia. Murray’s artwork has been exhibited internationally in galleries, museums, screening tours, and film festivals. Recent festivals include New York Film Festival: Convergence, FIVARS: Festival of International Virtual and Augmented Reality Stories, 360 Film Festival (Paris), Antimatter [Media Art] Festival, Chicago Underground Film Festival, the Festival of (In)Appropriation, and the Milwaukee Underground Film Festival.
