Biography
Will Redman is a composer, percussionist, and educator from Baltimore, MD. His music has been performed, broadcast, and written about in the U.S. and abroad, including: Notations 21 (cover image),The Baltimore Sun, New Music Box, Pitchfork, The Wire, BBC3, Resonance FM, WFMU, SCI 2011, Mobtown Modern, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, June In Buffalo, and the High Zero festival.
His compositions employ confounding extensions and extrapolations of traditional music notation in order to elicit radical interpretation by the performers. Current ensembles include the avant rock/jazz group Microkingdom, the percussion quartet Umbilicus, and the chamber group The Compositions. Redmanl holds a BA, MA, and PhD in composition from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, University of Southampton (England), and SUNY Buffalo, respectively. He has studied composition with Stuart S. Smith, Michael Finnissy, and Jeff Stadelman; and percussion with Kevin Norton and Tom Goldstein. He teaches privately and at Towson University.
