Empowering Talented Autistic Adults

The Hussman Center for Adults with Autism has partnered with to support talented autistic job seekers in building employability skills, expanding professional networks and securing meaningful employment. At the same time, we help employers create inclusive workplaces that benefit from the skills and strengths of neurodivergent employees.

With over 700,000 autistic individuals transitioning into adulthood in the next decade, this initiative helps connect a highly capable workforce with businesses eager to embrace neurodiversity.

For Job Seekers

This program is designed to build career readiness and independence for autistic adults who have a high school diploma, certifications or some college experience and are committed to finding and sustaining meaningful employment.

Our 10-week training program helps participants:

  • develop professional and workplace social skills
  • identify strengths, interests and career paths
  • gain confidence in self-advocacy and independence
  • receive ongoing peer support and mentorship

Additionally, we work with candidates in their search for employers and provide training opportunities for prospective and current employers of AHP candidates in areas such as autism, neurodiversity, ADA compliance and workplace inclusivity—ensuring a supportive and successful work environment.

Support After Program Completion

We are committed to the ongoing success of candidates after completion from the program. Our support continues in various methods, including:

  • one-on-one check-in meetings with our Employment Training Specialist
  • monthly virtual alumni meetings with individuals who have completed the program, all locations included – hosted by the Autism Society of Maryland
  • consultation with graduate and employers as needed

Eligibility

Admission Requirements

To participate, you must:

  • identify as autistic
  • have a high school diploma or GED (some college experience is preferred)
  • be able to attend weekly peer group and one-on-one sessions (virtual and in-person)
  • respond to staff requests to schedule meetings, coaching sessions, interviews and training

Priority is given to candidates who are not currently supported by DORS, DDA or additional employment or vocational services.

The Autism Hiring Program provides turnkey solutions for businesses that want to hire autistic professionals but lack the resources to develop an inclusive hiring process on their own.
