Pre-Physical Therapy Advising

Towson University helps students prepare for a career in Physical Therapy by providing specific guidance and advisement. Students planning on careers in Physical Therapy should meet early with CHP advisers to insure all prerequisite courses needed for entry into graduate programs are met.

The entry level degree to become a licensed practicing Physical Therapist is a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). Entry into DPT programs is highly competitive, and prerequisites vary according to the specific school you are applying to. Towson University does not offer a DPT program, however, we provide general advising to students who are interested in applying to a DPT program.

The minimum requirement for application to apply to a physical therapy program is completion of a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college. Because of the strong emphasis on science courses, which typically includes one year of chemistry, one year of physics, statistics and other mathematics courses, and at least four courses in biology, many students choose Exercise Science or Biology as their major. However, any major is acceptable, as long as specific undergraduate prerequisites for individual schools are completed.

A typical first-year student curriculum at Towson University might include chemistry, biology and mathematics. Towson provides advising to assist students with their undergraduate preparation for this field. Students will also receive advising from their major.
