Grant Development Workshops

Proposals typically due in APRIL

The goal of this workshop (organized jointly by the Faculty Academic Center of Excellence at Towson, the Office of Sponsored Programs & Research, and the School of Emerging Technologies) is to help faculty members develop grant proposals. The program is intended for faculty who are interested in developing a new proposal. Projects may be in an early stage of development or be further along. The projects could be either interdisciplinary or within a particular discipline.

Participants will receive a summer stipend to develop a proposal over the course of the summer. Depending upon the specific nature of the project, the workshop will allow them to fine-tune the project idea, develop a team, identify appropriate funding sources, and develop a competitive proposal. This will be done through a program of peer mentoring for the participants and focused programming on grant planning, writing and submission. For projects that have a team already in place, we encourage any one member or the lead investigator to apply.

During June, participants will attend seven bi-weekly one-to-two-hour sessions, some in-person and some remote. At the end of the period, faculty will submit a complete grant narrative that is ready to submit for funding.

Proposals typically due in December

The goal of this workshop (organized jointly by the Faculty Academic Center of Excellence, Office of Sponsored Programs & Research, and the School of Emerging Technologies) is to help faculty develop existing, unfunded external grant proposals into more competitive grant applications.

Participants will be paired with faculty mentors successful at winning external grants and OSPR staff who will support them over the course of two months as they re-write their existing grant proposal. After a January kick-off event, faculty and mentors will set accountability deadlines and meet to discuss progress over a two-month period. The workshop will include several sessions on crucial sections of grant applications, which will be identified once the participants in the workshop have been determined. At the end of the two-month period, faculty will complete the workshop with a revised and improved grant narrative that is ready to submit for the next round of external funding. Upon submission of their revised proposal, participants will receive a $500 stipend.

Internal Grants

OER are free learning materials that are written for the purpose of being shared publicly with no compensation for the creator. FACET periodically offers grants to faculty for exploration or adoption/adaptation of OER for their classes. In addition to grants, recipients receive support and mentoring by the TU OER Community of Practice (CoP).

The Office of Sponsored Programs and Research grows, manages and protects the Towson University sponsored programs portfolio.

The program鈥檚 purpose is to advance faculty research, with guidance from a nationally known scholar in the faculty member鈥檚 area of study.  At least three awards will be given to tenure-track Assistant Professors or Librarians I and II, who have been at Towson four years or fewer. All academic disciplines are welcome.

Periodically, faculty have the opportunity to meet with a panel who can help you develop and advance your project idea to potential funders. During this meeting, you will talk with representatives from BTUOSPRFACETOffice of Civic Engagement and Social ResponsibilitySET, and University AdvancementFor more information, please contact FACET.

The School of Emerging Technologies (SET) supports teams of interdisciplinary faculty in the early phases of collaborative projects relating to emerging technology with Seed Funding grants.

External Grants

The Office of Sponsored Programs and Research (OSPR) grows, manages and protects the Towson University sponsored programs portfolio.

Faculty are invited to apply for a workshop (organized by FACET, OSPR, and SET) to take place from January through March that will help them to develop their existing, unfunded grant proposals into more competitive, external grants. For proposals that have multiple PIs, the team may select to have one or several individuals participate. Through periodic sessions with OSPR staff and peer mentors, faculty will work on the content and structure of their work to better match their applications to program scopes and reviewer expectations. After a January kick-off session, faculty will pair off with mentors, and meet periodically with OSPR staff.

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)

FACET sponsors a mini-grant program to support faculty in introducing novel classroom innovations, course-based undergraduate research projects, or classroom activities aimed at improving student success, retention, and/or inclusion. Faculty are encouraged to disseminate their studies in journals that publish Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). The funds may be used to support costs, including purchasing supplies or subscriptions, paying students to aid in data entry/analysis, and/or stipends for faculty to support the development of the project or activities. Awards are granted in the Spring and Fall semesters.

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is the systematic study of teaching and learning to improve student success and retention. TU faculty have published in the following SoTL journals:
