What is Supplemental Instruction (SI)?

Supplemental Instruction (SI) was designed at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) and is an academic model that uses peer-facilitated study sessions for students taking historically difficult courses.

SI is provided for all students who want to improve their understanding of course material and improve their grades. The SI sessions are free, regularly scheduled, informal review sessions geared towards helping to develop organizational tools.

Sessions are led by SI leaders who are students who have previously taken the course and done well.

Which courses offer Supplemental Instruction (SI)?

This semester we are offering SI sessions for select sections of BIOL 191, BIOL 200, ECON 201, and ECON 205.

How does Supplemental Instruction work?

SI leaders attend class with students currently enrolled in courses that offer SI (see above) each week and host regularly scheduled review sessions. Participating students bring their course materials and actively engage in the activities facilitated by the leader.  The study sessions focus on the most challenging important material already covered in the course.

When and Where is SI Offered?

SI will be available as a drop-in session for the courses listed above. Sessions run between Sunday- Friday based off of the schedule listed below.

Please note: All schedules are subject to change and will be announced by the SI Leader. Check our weekly emails and for up-to-date room locations and schedule changes.
