Sales Competition

Conduct a 15-minute one-on-one sales meeting with a potential customer for a chance to win scholarships, receive job or internship opportunities with our corporate partners, and represent Towson University at a national sales competition!

Fall 2024 Sales Competition

Friday, November 15, 2024

How it Works

Contestants receive product information two weeks in advance and prepare for a 15-20 minute one-on-one sales meeting with a potential “buyer,†during which they go through need identification, propose a solution to the buyer's situation, address buyer’s concerns, and potentially make a sale. Judges observe this exchange through a live feed and score each student’s execution of the stages of the sales process using the Evaluation Criteria (PDF). All buyers and judges are career salespeople, recruiters, or sales managers.

Sales professionals judged students' pitches via a closed-circuit video feed.

Why Companies Participate

Strategic Sales Competitions are the best way to see Towson University’s best student sales talent in action. The most highly represented major/concentration is marketing, followed by finance and mass communication, but entrepreneurship, international business, management, and economics students are also consistently present. Sales Competitions give corporate partners a chance not only to recruit during the competition, but also to establish a long-term on-campus presence through sales class guest visits, hosting students for shadowing-a-salesperson days, and experiential learning class projects. In addition, the Platinum Partner company each year gets to write the sales scenario and choose the product for the Fall competition.

“ The sales competition has been an all-around rewarding experience. I was able to sharpen my sales skills, network with other sales professionals, and ultimately attain my postgraduate job. I would highly recommend the competition to everyone. â€

Charlie Gilbert, 1st Place, 2020
