About the Event

Skills to Pay the Bills is a workshop-style event hosted by CBE's Young Alumni Advisory Council for students. The event kicks off with a keynote speaker, followed by a workshop and two breakout sessions focusing on honing your soft skills. You'll also have the opportunity to:

  • Have a professional headshot taken
  • Get your resume reviewed by an industry expert
  • Network with business professionals in your desired field

Keynote & Group Session

Hear from Aileen Eskildsen, a TU alumna and current CEO of Ellin & Tucker, in a fireside chat where she shares her career story and keys for young professionals to be successful. 

From Application to Offer: Thriving in the Modern Job Market: Transform your job search into a strategic plan for success. This session focuses on actionable steps to land your dream role, including tackling AI-driven hiring, optimizing your LinkedIn profile, and acing common interview questions. Explore insights on identifying in-demand roles, understanding compensation, and making a seamless transition into your new role. 

Breakout Sessions

After the keynote and group session, participants will attend one of the two breakout sessions below, based on their interests.

  1. Navigating Negotiations and Hard Conversations - Feel prepared for even the most intimidating workplace conversations. This session explores strategies for addressing common challenges, from resolving team disputes to managing client demands and providing constructive feedback. Learn how to approach these conversations with empathy, clarity, and professionalism. 
  2. Investing in Your Future -  Set yourself up for long-term success with smart financial and professional decisions. This session breaks down the basics of budgeting, building credit, and understanding your FICO score, along with an introduction to retirement planning (yes, it’s never too early!). Learn how to invest in your future through professional certifications and networking opportunities, so you can confidently navigate life after graduation.

Whether you're a soon to be graduate or just looking to get a jump start on your workforce skills, Skills to Pay the Bills is a unique opportunity for TU students to sharpen their soft skills before entering the workforce. 

Soft skills are personal attributes that enable you to work effectively as an individual and with others. Soft skills include communication, problem solving, teamwork, time management and more.
