Dance Education PreK-12 Teacher Concentration
Dance majors may elect to add a concentration leading to eligibility for PreK-12 dance teacher certification.
Expand Your Options
Dancers with teaching experience have a competitive edge in the dance sector. That’s one reason the teacher certification option is a great choice. The program leads to eligibility for certification to teach dance in Maryland public schools and other states. It also offers excellent preparation to teach in a commercial studio setting or professional educational programs.
Admission and Degree Requirements
To be admitted to the dance B.F.A. with the PreK-12 concentration program, you first must be accepted to the dance performance and choreography screened major. Additional screening for this concentration includes a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for admission to an initial licensure teacher education program, and completion of a Criminal History Disclosure Statement Authorization and Release Form (PDF). PreK-12 Dance Education students must maintain a semester GPA of 3.0 in required dance education courses.
The program typically takes four-and-a-half years, concluding with a year-long internship in a public school. View for the PreK-12 Dance Education Concentration in the Undergraduate Catalog.
