TU Leadership Opportunities
Handshake is a free, online resource TU students use to find on-campus jobs and leadership positions, internships, community service opportunities, and part- and full-time jobs. TU leadership positions, including many of those detailed below, are posted throughout the year in Handshake (search for position type “On-Campus Leadership”).
Leadership Positions
Career Peer Advisers*
Career Peer Advisers are leaders trained to guide and assist TU students with resume and cover letter reviews, job search strategies, and general career concerns in both group and 1:1 settings. These Career Center-based positions allow for the development and application of leadership, communication, analytical, and advising skills. Career Peer Advisors work 6-10 hours per week, are paid, and receive intensive training. If you are interested in exploring CPA opportunities, contact the Career Center at careercenter AT_TOWSON.
Civic Engagement Fellows*
The Civic Engagement Fellows help to engage Towson University’s student community in many different facets of civic engagement including political, environmental, and leadership initiatives. Fellows also help facilitate various events hosted by Civic Engagement & Social Responsibility. To find out more about Fellows, or if you are interested in becoming a Civic Engagement Fellow, stop by the office on the second floor of the Administration Building or email: civicengagement AT_TOWSON.
Student Leadership Consultants*
Student Leadership Consultants (SLC) participants are a part of the Student Activities team and serve as peer educators who promote and teach leadership to students through workshops, retreats, and conferences. As a member of TULC, you will learn invaluable skills such as workshop facilitation, leadership experience, event planning, and program assessment. Contact Roodinz Vital, rvital AT_TOWSON, for more information.
Orientation Leaders & Orientation Assistants
Orientation Leaders (OLs) are the incoming students’ first impression of what it truly means to be a TU Tiger. OLs direct new students through orientation, convocation, and the Welcome to Towson weekend, maintaining a positive attitude and high level of energy throughout the orientation process.
Resident Assistant*
Resident Assistants (RAs) are in charge of maintaining a welcoming atmosphere in each of the on-campus living communities around campus. In addition, RAs are also responsible for promoting the values and ideals of a Towson University student and encouraging his/her residents to do the same by hosting various programs and events throughout the semester. For more information on what it means to be a Resident Assistant, visit the HRL website.
SAGE Mentors*
The Students Achieve Goals through Education (SAGE) Program works to incorporate new students into many educational, cultural and social aspects that Towson University has to offer. Each SAGE mentee is paired with a SAGE mentor who takes on the role of guiding their mentee through their first year at Towson. This includes helping with career choice, major and minor selection, course registration, identifying campus organization and activities, employment, roommate relationships, financial aid, navigating the Towson University campus and Metropolitan Baltimore. Learn more information about the SAGE mentorship program.

Student Support Network
From TU's Psychology Department comes the Student Support Network (SSN), a seven-week training program that provides skills to help a friend in crisis. We discuss mental and emotional health, warning signs of a friend who’s struggling, and how to talk about difficult issues. You will be equipped with resources to address these issues and develop strategies for how to connect them with your friends in need. We utilize direct teaching as well as practice situations with role-playing and visualization in order to build your ability to respond effectively when presented with real struggles from your loved ones.
