University Residence Government

University Residence Government (URG) is an organization that represents all on-campus residents by hosting events, advocating for change, and making the residence halls a place to call home.

The University Residence Government welcomes you to campus!

We are doing amazing things this year. The General Assembly meets bi-weekly on Tuesdays from 7-8:30 in the University Union. We welcome everyone and would love to hear your input about the work we are doing to make this campus ideal for every resident.

Some of our goals include:

  • Serve as the representative governing body/ voice of Towson University residents
  • Advocate/Initiate change on behalf of resident students.
  • Enhance the resident experience and subsequently serve to benefit the entire campus community and greater Towson area.
  • Create, plan and promote programs that engage and excite the Resident community.

URG is a group of enthusiastic individuals working together to instill Towson pride and community throughout the residence halls.

What is a Building Council?

Each building on campus has a Building Council that is elected annually by the residents of that building. The Council is comprised of a president, vice president, treasurer, secretary and building representatives, as well as other positions that may be created.  Building Council is a great leadership opportunity on campus, especially for first year students looking to get involved.

National Association of College and University Residence Halls

URG is part of NACURH, which represents over 400 schools across the world. As an organization, NACURH creates environments that empower, motivate, and equip residence hall leaders by providing them with skills and resources in order for them to excel and positively impact their campus communities. Regionally, URG is affiliated with CAACURH, the Central Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls. Each year, URG takes a delegation to the annual national conference and two regional conferences.

How do I join URG?

If you live on campus you are already a member of URG! Building council is the first step. Building Councils consist of members within your resident hall that are elected by students, each hall has a board. URG has an overall executive board along with building council executive boards, active members and residents. If you'd like to become more involved in your residence hall, email us or contact the Residence Life Coordinator of your building for more information.  It's never too late to join!
