Living in the Honors Community has several advantages including a strong student community, access to in-hall classroom space, and an atmosphere conducive to study. The Honors Community is dedicated to students admitted to the Honors College who want a living environment that will help them pursue their academic goals. The Honors College is for students who exhibit extraordinary academic success and who strive to constantly challenge themselves in their educational pursuits. This community is in partnership with the Honors College and Housing & Residence Life.
To request to live in Douglass House you must be a current Honors College student or have applied to the Honors College.
All incoming first year Honors students living in University Housing will be assigned to Douglass House. Returning Honors students may select a room in the Honors Community during Living Learning Communities room sign-up provided one of the roommates is an Honors College student.
The community has nine Resident Assistants, many of whom are Honors College students, along with multiple Liaisons. The Honors College also has a satellite office in the building that Honors College professional and student staff utilizes to meet with students.
All medical accommodations are managed through Accessibility & Disability Services
All rooms in Douglass House are double occupancy with a private bathroom.
In cases when HRL receives an overwhelming amount of interest in living on campus the number of available accommodations will be increased by converting some double rooms into triples. These specially configured and furnished rooms can accommodate up to three people. These triples are temporary, and students will be moved out as space becomes available on campus. Students assigned to a fall triple will be notified via email when assignments are sent out in August.
At this time due to a high interest in on-campus living roommate requests between an Honors student and a non-Honors student can not be guaranteed.
Your roommate may or may not be an Honors student. If all rooms are not filled with Honors students, then non-Honors students may be placed in the building as well.
The classes taught in the building are seminar style classes. These are smaller sized (about 15-20 students) and consist of more class discussion than professor lectures.
Sunday through Thursday quiet hours begin at 8pm, Friday and Saturday begin at 10pm. Quiet hours end at 10am daily.
Honors Students are guaranteed on-campus housing in Douglass House your entire time at Towson University, provided you maintain Honors College status, meet all required housing deposit deadlines, and live in Douglass House consecutively beginning with the Fall semester. Students entering in the Spring, a Douglass House assignment will be be based on availability.
The Honors Community was established in 1998 in Richmond Hall. In Fall 2011 the Honors Community moved to Douglass House.
